The physical & verbal abuse started in 1997, in our married quarter at 268 Dalrymple Road, Vincent, Townsville QLD, 4814.
He strangled me for the first time there, by holding me down on the ground and putting his hands around my throat.
I tried to run away to the airport many times during those first 12 months, but he begged me to stay and I reluctantly agreed every time.
I was happy at work and he was away a lot, so that gave me time to forget about the reality of the situation.
And when he was home, we would always be heading out to the Townsville pubs with the 2RAR Crew.
Or we would have BIG drinking sessions at someone's house. The 2RAR Crew were also known as The Drinking Buddies!
It was my ex-husband's drinking, his arrogant attitude, and his poor listening skills caused never-ending turmoil and abuse in our relationship.
When he was drunk he would threaten to kill me, he intimidated me,
He prevented me from talking to other people, especially when he was around.
He loved to talk about himself all the time, and everyone had to listen and be in awe of who he was.
HE WAS BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE
HE WAS 'THE MAN'
He threatened me with violence,
He prevented me from leaving the house many times.
He was great at emotionally blackmailing me.
He even punched holes in walls next to my head,
Standing over me,
destroyed property,
He always acted like he was far more superior than me.
His attitude was:
There is no excuse for this behaviour. A real man does not do these things.
